Followerwonk: How It Can Help Develop and Engage Your Twitter Followers

  • Analyse the demographics of your Twitter followers and your rivals
  • Find people who follow you regularly online
  • Analyse the number of followers gained and lost
  • Analyse your tweets or an opponent's tweets

This post focuses on the first bullet point to show you how to grow a relevant and engaging community on Twitter using Follower Wonk.

 

Build a community that is relevant and engaging

 

Twitter is a powerful tool for any brand - it influences by creating conversations with customers, enabling them to instantly interact with the people they want to sell. So creating strong followers on Twitter is crucial. When setting up and managing your Twitter account, always consider your goals for this channel. Do you want to build a community, provide customer service or lead people to your blog?

But this is not so much about numbers now, if these followers are not interested in your services then the number of followers is just a vanity metric. After engaging, relevant followers on Twitter can help increase the scope of your tweets and content. An active Twitter presence can also increase the visibility of your brand in search results.

How can you grow a relevant community on Twitter?

The most valuable feature of FollowerWonk is the 'Search BIOS' tab for me. For those who have new Twitter accounts or accounts that are slow to grow followers, this activity will help.

1. By job title, interest, or keyword

Who is your ideal customer? What are their interests? What is their job title? Put a relevant keyword in the search bar to search for everyone's BIOS on Twitter for these people. Follow relevant users to spread awareness about your brand on Twitter (I hope they follow you back)

2.Search by location

Add more targeting by searching by location. Select the 'Advanced Search' tab and enter your location. It may be country or city-based

To view this in more detail and to group some audience members together, download the data to a spreadsheet. That way you can decide your priorities and develop an existing strategy

Find influencers and potential brand advocates

The ‘Search BIOS’ tab enables you to select potential Twitter users to interact with (and share your content with their followers). Engaging with active and influential Twitter users related to your industry will significantly increase the volume of your tweets.

For example, if you are a company specializing in Indian cottage holidays, engaging with national travel bloggers can be beneficial for sowing your content. Maintaining good relationships with engaging Twitter users will lead to more and more happy customers and brand advocates. However, how do you decide who are the right people to target? This is where FollowerWonk really becomes valuable.

1.Sort by ‘Social Authority

The Social Authority has a reliable metric of 100, which is calculated by:

  • Retweet rate of last hundreds of users' tweets
  • How recently did they tweet
  • Model-based on a retweet trained in user profile data

Those with a social authority score of more than 50 are more likely to influence a larger audience. When searching the BIOS, sort the Social Authority list to find these users as shown below:

2.Look at the engagement score

Hover over each person on the list and you will see a ‘total engagement’ score. It's based on the percentage of tweets from that user's replies or retweets that determine how many times they interact against the broadcast. These people are likely to retweet you once you start a conversation, so these are the people you should look for when deciding who to target to help promote your content.

Once you have a list of your possibilities, follow them and start engaging. If you use a retrieval tool like Buzzstream, you can download and upload your listing to Buzzstream. This will help keep track of your contacts

What else can you do if you have a Moz account?
